Summary:
Performs all functions involved in the procedure of obtaining electrocardiograms.
This includes performing the test, pacemaker function tests, maintenance of equipment, logging tests, filing results, responsible for seeing all phases of the test are complete Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
1.
Communicates effectively with patients, family members, ancillary and medical staff 2.
Appropriate introductions, brief overview of procedure and expected procedure time 3.
Clearly identifies patient and answers patient's questions within limits of scope of practice 4.
Verifies patient allergies 5.
Notifies physician of critical findings 6.
Answers phone and beeper pages and following through with messages and/or assigned tasks within the workday 7.
Maintains clean, neat and orderly order work area 8.
Completes and reviews charges.
Checks for accuracy of information and completes charge.
Checks charge printout the following day and corrects charges when necessary 9.
Maintains up to date Annual Manual Competencies 10.
Maintains up to date Age-Specific Competencies 11.
Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job related hazards, and national patient safety goals.

Exam will be performed on patients from newborn to adult 2.
Performs electrocardiogram - see electrocardiogram specific protocol.
Prepares the patient and explains the procedure to the patient.
Confers with physician prior to testing as appropriate regarding pertinent information that would insure best tracing.
Prepares EKG paper and patient identification.
Attaches electrodes in proper position.
Completes quality electrocardiogram testing on the patient.
Consults with physician/cardiologists after completion of test or during interpretation of test.
Forwards EKG to cardiologist for interpretation.
If EKG is abnormal, follows through promptly with appropriate provider.
Collects edited and dictated EKG interpretation, forwards to requesting physician as appropriate.
Cleans equipment between each patient use 3.
Maintains files of EKG.
Revises and edits EKG interpretations.
Forwards EKGs to medical records.
Forwards results to referring physician as appropriate.
Maintains log of completed EKGs.
Makes copies and forwards EKGs and pacer checks to other institution when requested through established protocol 4.
Completes charge - Submits charge for EKG per established guidelines to include copies when billing is necessary.
Checks completed charge tickets and follow though with problems 5.
Maintains EKG Equipment.
Ensures safety and maintenance checks are completed.
Assures equipment performance and takes corrective action when in doubt.
Maintains appropriate level of supplies Minimum Education, Experience, Training, and Licensures Required:
High School Graduate or Equivalent, BLS required.
Experience:
One to 2 years related experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills.
